Late in 2017, St Paul was blessed to be given this opportunity to save on our monthly electrical expenses and have an impact to our carbon footprint to the environment. The proposed reduction to our monthly electrical bill will greatly help our already tight budget for years to come.
December 2019 marked the one-year anniversary of the SMUD lighting retrofit project. We want to report to you some good news.
The SMUD Complete Energy Solutions Program offers us this opportunity to upgrade our lighting fixtures offsetting the cost with their rebate program and estimated outstanding return on investment (ROI) figures.
The total project cost was $18,137.06, less the SMUD rebate of $8,866.91, resulting in the total cost $9,270.15 for the parish. The estimated ROI was 1.18 years.
The first year’s total savings in electrical usage for 2019 was
$3,521.84. As a result, it is estimated to be more than one-third the cost of the project. Projecting this cost savings we should see the return on investment of $9,270.15 within another year and half to two years realistically, which is still an outstanding ROI estimate.
Due to a few challenges with the scope of the project, specifically the round canister lamps in the chapel, vestibules & entrances and above where Father sits were not retrofitted. We do have an internal plan formulated but it will take longer to accomplish. The finance council will be taking over the project, and they will update the parish moving forward.
